Note that although the long term trend (1910 - 1998) indicates an overall decreasing aluminum/steel price ratio, the trend for the ratio over the past 25 years is increasing. This is because the 1973 prices were too low, and because the industry has been trying to boost prices since 1990. It won't last forever.
